June is coming to an end and we have already passed the summer solstice and the days will be getting shorter! My, how time flies!
The American River, here in Sacramento, continues to delight during my morning kayak and photography excursions.
Last weekend the Gold Rush chapter of the Photographic Society of America saw me present "My Stretch of the American River: A Photographer's Journal" and it was very well received! You can preview and purchase the Blu-ray DVD of the presentation here.
Here are a few special recent photos:
The baby geese are growing up
A group of juvenile Great Blue Herons feed
Up close and personal with a Great Egret
Watching the light play on some grasses
A beautiful sunrise
Sometimes when out photographing, the subject is great but the light isn’t quite what I am after, so I use a technique I call “Flipping the Light” using the Radial FIlter to make the image more interesting and draw the viewers attention to the main subject.
This is one of the techniques discussed in my webinar “Using the Local Adjustment Tools to take your images beyond ordinary”. If you missed the live webinar you can still purchase the recording here and turn your photos from ordinary to extraordinary. There are links to both the Photoshop and the Lightroom webinars.
Here are two examples of what I mean by “Flipping the Light”. Notice how the after shots guide your eye directly to the subject, and the picture becomes more dynamic. You should give it a try!
Once again, Alaska and the bears are calling in July, and I can’t wait! 7 lucky participants joining me and we are going to have a great time!
Next year’s dates for the bear trip are August 5- 12, 2016. It’s only $4995 before November 2015 and $5195 after. So if you are interested in joining me in 2016 drop me an email NOW and let me know. The web page will be up shortly and this one sells out early – don’t miss out! It’s truly a once in a lifetime experience to be up close and personal with the bears. Click here to watch a video.
A great group going on the Arcanum website with me as their mentor. The Arcanum is a learning site based on the old tradition of masters and apprentices. We are the Light Seekers and there are students from the US, Egypt and the UK so far! It is a great experience and it is so much fun to watch this group come together and interact with each other, sharing and offering ideas. If you want to join this unique learning experience it is not too late! Hop over to www.thearcanum.com to learn more. If you do decide you want to join my group, we’re going to be doing awesome things, fill out an application and let me know ASAP so I can find your application before another instructor does!
Keep taking great photos,
